You know what a farmhouse beer is, right? You’ve sipped on an cloudy, funky saison and could practically hear the banjos playing in the background, of course. Farmhouse beer, as a category, is a bit of an anomaly. The style has roots in Wallonia, where farmers would brew beer during the off-season, so they had something to drink while tending their fields during the hot summer months. Today, that’s less the case, with breweries around the world boasting farmhouse styles in their lineup, despite their lack of proximity to a farm. The pendulum is swinging back, so to speak, with a new generation of actual farmers reclaiming the style.
