The music at Big Dog’s Brewing Company is as eclectic as its tap list. The Las Vegas brewery has won 11 Great American Beer Festival medals for styles ranging from brown ale to cream ale to tripel. Director of Brewing Operations David Pascual said they don’t have a preference toward beer styles, and the brewery’s stance on music is the same.
“Maybe it’s like our taste for the many different styles of beer,” said Pascual, who’s earned Big Dog’s Tripel Dog Dare to two straight GABF medals, including Gold in 2017.
While Belgian-style beers are be more in Pascual’s wheelhouse, the brewery won silver and gold in English-style brown ale with Red Hydrant Ale in 2012 and 2015, respectively. The beer, Red Hydrant, has changed little in recipe since it was first brewed nearly 25 years ago. Big Dog’s IPAs, like the recently released Dank Dog IPA laced with Simcoe and Mosaic hops, are equally as mouthwatering.
“Honestly you can’t go wrong with the lineup we have,” he said. “We’re trying to push some envelopes here and there, but we just want to make a great core lineup and some fun beers here and there.”
While sipping on those beers, Jack Johnson’s soothing acoustic melodies might linger in the background. Then, Snoop Dogg will take over for a few riffs about his vice of choice, followed by Michael Jackson’s iconic falsetto, Van Halen jumping in and the Talking Head burning down the house. Perhaps most fitting on Big Dog’s playlist is Kenny Roger’s The Gambler, since the bar in Big Dog’s, as many are in Las Vegas, is topped with gaming machines.
The beauty of Big Dog’s, and the rest of Las Vegas’ breweries, is it’s welcoming to anyone and there’s a little bit of everything for anyone. So, in the words of Nrivana, “Come as you are.”
