Drink This All the Time

May 16, 2018

By Matt Osgood, May 16, 2018

When it comes to beer, I believe there is a time and a place for every style. Big, barrel-aged quads and barleywines are great when frost covers the window panes. Wonderfully crafted saisons and farmhouse ales, delivered in elegantly packaged 750-ml bottles mimic a wine-like atmosphere at dinner.

We’ve become pretty adept at pairing the right beer with the right situation. You wouldn’t drink a big imperial stout before driving the kids to the movies. You wouldn’t drink a four-pack of an 8% double IPA while party-hopping during BBQ season. You get the idea. However, there are so many in-between moments and , sometimes, you just want a beer.

This is a well-made beer.”

According to Firestone Walker's website, Firestone Lager is a beverage that’s for, “Anyone who likes a good, clean beer.” Technically a Munich Helles, at 4.5% ABV, the beer has been heavily-marketed as a beer that panders to a demographic of beer-drinkers whose dislikes are “overthinking” and values include both happy hour and making it to closing time.

The beer pours slightly golden—the word “hell” in German can be translated to bright or light. The body, which is super light, is defined by a caramelized graininess and a crisp bready bite. It finishes mildly dry, with a nice carbonation, and hits that middle ground of not sweet, but not bitter. This is a well-made beer.

Firestone Walker receives acclaim for its series of beers that come packaged in brown boxes. Each of those beers is nuanced and complex in their own ways and worthy of the attention that is, and must be, paid to them. But if you’re looking for a beer to accompany a round of golf or an afternoon in the park, grab a Firestone Lager.
