Goose Island made headlines this week with the highly anticipated announcement of its Bourbon Country Brand Stout variants. For the first time, the Chicago-based brewery will release not one, not two, but eight version of its celebrated barrel-aged stout.

The Goose Is Loose

For some, Thanksgiving is a time to gather 'round a turkey with family and friends. For others, it’s a time to stand in line with strangers waiting for the beer store to open. Those in the second category are hoping to get their hands on a bottle or two of Goose Island’s Bourbon County Brand Stout. This year’s Black Friday release happens on November 23rd and will introduce eight new variants. It’s the most amounts of variants Goose Island has ever released in a single year and includes Wheatwine, Bramble Rye Stout, Coffee Barleywine and Midnight Orange Stout. Goose Island will also bring back standbys including Original, Reserve and Vanilla Stout. This year’s Proprietor’s Stout will pack a strong chocolate punch with dark chocolate and two types of cocoa nibs. (Goose Island Beer Co.)

Perfect Pint

It was a dark and smooth pint of Guinness that first introduced me to the vast world of beer. Prior to it, my world was limited to Natty Lite fresh off the backyard keg. I was living in Ireland at the time, and as anyone who has ever been to Ireland will tell you, Guinness just tastes better in Ireland. Now, Americans can get an immersive Guinness experience with the opening of Guinness Open Gate Brewery & Barrel House in Baltimore, Maryland. The brewery, tasting room, visitors center and gift shop opened on August 2nd and welcomed 10,000 visitors in its first weekend. While guests can get a taste of fresh-from-the-tank Guinness IPA, milk stout, Citra wit and Belgian-style apricot pale ale; Guinness’ standby beers, such as Guinness Draught and Guinness Extra Stout, will still be brewed in Dublin.
